Herbs for my Day

Herbs for my Day by Don Ollsin, RH (AHG), MA

These are the herbs that I use in my daily practice. I use different herbs to help me feel awake and in touch with my emotions, nourished from the inside out, and finally, I use specific herbs to help me get to sleep. I like to make herbs a part of my daily ritual. They can be as essential to my well-being as my morning coffee. Which herbs do you use in your daily practice?

Herbs for thinking and feeling.

  • Coffee
  • Ginkgo
  • Hawthorn
  • American Ginseng
  • A little Ginger to spread the joy around.

I make my morning latte and then I choose one of the tinctures above to add to it, depending on my mood.  

Herbs for nourishment.

  • Reishi
  • Stinging Nettle
  • Horsetail
  • Comfrey
  • Kelp
  • Hawthorn
  • A little Cayenne to deepen and spread the nourishment. 

I start with a mix of Dr. Ohira homemade coconut fermented milk or kefir and some regular live yogurt, and then I add the herbs mostly in powder form that I feel drawn to that day. 

The end of the day and time for sleep and rejuvenation.

  • Magnesium Bis-Glycinate
  • Valerian
  • Skullcap
  • Passion flower.

The magnesium and valerian are in capsules and the last two are in tincture form. I mix the two tinctures in some goat's milk and use that to swallow the capsules. I mix a second glass to take in the middle of the night. I take another valerian but regulate the magnesium as it is a laxative and you can always have too much of a good thing.
